The S-300 defence system is shown at the covert installation on April 15 in satellite photos accessed by the media showing the covert installation in a deserted location. It lacks any signs of the S-300 missile defence system. The attack site lies to the north of the nuclear facility in Natanz.
Drones and missiles attacked the Iranian region of Isfahan last week.
Although Israel reportedly carried out the attacks, the Jewish state did not confirm or deny executing the operations. The explosions happened a week after Iran attacked Israel, its main regional competitor, with drone, ballistic, and cruise missile attacks. The extraordinary targeted strikes from Tehran came after hostilities had reached a breaking point.
In satellite photos accessed by the media, the S-300 defence system is shown at the covert installation on April 15. According to the most recent Google Earth photograph, the location is deserted. It lacks any signs of the S-300 missile defence system. The attack site lies to the north of the nuclear facility in Natanz.
The system consists of many trucks outfitted with missile launchers, radar, and other equipment. According to reports, Israeli weaponry was able to avoid detection by the Iranian air defence system and strike an area that had anti-ballistic missile defence systems installed. Drones and missiles were fired against the system, implying this.
According to the New York Times, the two Iranian officials stated that nothing, not even drones, missiles, or planes, had been spotted flying into Iranian territory on Friday. Iran’s official news agency, IRNA, supports this assessment by stating that there have been no missile attacks and that the country’s air defence system has not been triggered. According to satellite photos, the plant is damaged.
The BBC said the radar of the S-300 defence system was damaged, but the missile launchers were intact. The fire control radar, which directs the missile toward the target, is an essential element in the system.
Iran International, a news agency critical of the regime, said, “The image clearly shows that the system’s engagement radar, which guides the surface-to-air missiles, has been destroyed,” Farzin Nadimi, a Senior Fellow at the Washington Institute, told the agency.
Since both parties have refuted the charges, it is still unknown how much damage was caused and what weaponry Israel may have employed. But according to the New York Times, which quoted Western officials, Israel’s strike was planned to send a message to Iran about how to get around its defences without being noticed. The Western officials further stated that neither the missile nor the aircraft that fired it entered Jordanian airspace.
After years of negotiations, Russia delivered the S-300 air defence system to Iran in 2016. Israel was concerned when one of the most vital air defence systems was supplied. 2010, Russia gave up on the agreement with Iran because of pressure from the West.
